If you’re searching for the best winter place to visit near Bangalore, Nandi Hills deserves a spot at the top of your list. It’s peaceful, scenic, slightly adventurous, and the views during early morning feel straight out of a movie.
This blog is our real travel story from starting in Kerala to reaching the top of Nandi Hills by trekking, enjoying the views, and coming back to Bangalore in time for lunch.
From Ernakulam to Bangalore: The Journey Begins
Our trip started from Ernakulam Junction around 9:00 AM. The excitement was real because we were finally doing a proper short travel and trek plan outside Kerala. After a long train journey, we reached Bangalore around 9:00 PM.
Since we didn’t want to waste time searching for hotels late at night, we stayed in the railway station dormitory. Honestly, this was one of the best decisions safe, convenient, and perfect for budget travel.
After dinner and a little rest, we knew we had to wake up early because Nandi Hills is all about the morning vibes.
Early Morning Start: Majestic Bus Stand to Chikkaballapur
The next day, we woke up early and by 4:30 AM, we were already heading to Majestic Bus Stand (Kempegowda Bus Station). The city was quiet and cold, and that early-morning energy felt different.
From Majestic, we caught a bus to Chikkaballapur, which is around 60 km from Bangalore. The bus journey was smooth and the weather was really good. It felt like the right time to go to a hill place.
Once we reached the Chikkaballapur bus stand, we got down and hired an auto to reach the Nandi Hills base point.

Trekking to Nandi Hills: Short but Beautiful
We chose the base point because we wanted to trek instead of going straight to the top by vehicle. It was a good decision.
The trek took us around 1.5 hours. It’s not a difficult trek, but you’ll still feel tired by the time you reach the top.
During the walk, the best part was the views on both sides. The fresh air, greenery, and the calm morning atmosphere made the climb feel refreshing instead of tiring.
Reaching the top was the goal, but the walk itself was also enjoyable because of the views.

Reaching the Top: Views That Make You Pause
After the trek, we finally reached the top of Nandi Hills. The view was really good and the weather was also perfect at that time.
At the top, there are multiple viewpoints and spots where you can just stand silently and enjoy nature doing its thing. The wind hits different, the temperature is cooler, and the whole place feels like a winter getaway even if you’re visiting from a hot city.
We walked around and explored the viewpoints. It was peaceful, and we took some good photos there.

Snacks Break & Chill Time
After exploring the viewpoints, we took a short break and had some snacks. Then we rested for a bit and started our return journey.
That’s one thing about places like Nandi Hills you don’t need luxury to feel happy there. Just good weather, good company, and good views.
Returning Back: Easy Transport from the Top
After spending enough time at the top, we decided to return. Instead of trekking down again, we used the bus service provided from the top to the base. That made the return easy and saved our energy too.
From the base, we again took an auto back to the bus stop, and then caught a bus to Bangalore. We reached Bangalore by around 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM, which felt perfect morning trek done, and still half the day left.
